Orthopaedic Surgery Residency

The Orthopaedic Surgery Residency program provides a transformative educational experience to orthopaedic surgical residents that will shape their practice and improve the management of musculoskeletal disease through a deeper understanding of value-based, patient-centered health care delivery. The Orthopaedic Surgery Residency program is affiliated with the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care.

Training Facilities

The training sites, including four hospitals and three surgery centers, equip residents to perform both inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures and practice orthopaedic care that emphasizes value, efficiency and innovation.

Dell Seton Medical Center at UT Austin.

Dell Seton is the primary teaching hospital of Dell Med and the program. It is the referral center for all of Central Texas and is the only adult Level 1 Trauma Center within 60 miles.

Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas.

Dell Children’s is the only pediatric Level I Trauma Center and Level IV NICU Care Center in Central Texas. The center provides care for infants, children and adolescents in a 46-county area.

Ascension Seton Medical Center.

This busy private community hospital offers 38 operating suites where more than 1,000 joint replacement procedures are performed each year.

Ascension Seton Hays provides advanced medical care to the residents of Hays, Caldwell and South Travis counties. The facility’s wide array of services and team of expert medical professionals provide personalized care to help patients return to their normal lives.

Hyde Park Surgery Center.

This center performs a broad range of outpatient surgical procedures. The team’s mission is to care for every patient and their family as if they were their own — each patient, each family, each and every time.

Texas Orthopedics Surgery Center.

With more than two dozen providers, Texas Orthopedics is distinguished as the largest orthopaedic surgery practice in the area providing comprehensive care for all orthopaedic specialties.

Medical Park Tower.

This surgery center focuses on offering a high-quality, service-oriented environment for general and specialty surgical procedures.

Northwest Hills Surgical Hospital.

Over the last 20 years, this site has been established as the premier specialty hospital in the Austin and Central Texas region. The physicians and staff perform an array of inpatient and outpatient surgeries, available to the entire community in a convenient, private setting.

Specially For Children OR at Dell Childrens Medical Group.

Strictly Pediatrics provides quality, accredited surgical care to children and adolescents in Central Texas.

Applications are accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) until Dec. 1. Early application is encouraged.

Curriculum: A Focus on Team-Based Care

The program provides residents with a comprehensive foundation of medical knowledge and skills in the subspecialties of orthopaedic surgery, with a focus on interdisciplinary care.
