Dell Medical School physician leaders — from new graduates to longtime faculty members — must continue to enhance their provision of evidence-based, patient-centered care for the entirety of their careers. Through continuing medical education activities offered by the school, Dell Med team members and local practitioners have access to lifelong learning activities that benefit the community.
Continuing medical education at Dell Med is overseen by the school’s Office of Continuing Medical Education, which aims to improve how people get and stay healthy through professional development opportunities that promote enhanced value, safety, quality and equity of patient-centered care.
The mission of Dell Med’s CME program is to provide comprehensive, objective, evidence-based CME activities that enhance the knowledge, competence and performance of its participants.
The program’s goals are to:
- Encourage the academic and professional development of physicians
- Further scientific discovery and advancement
- Promote innovation
- Improve quality of life and delivery of health care
- Endorse the practice of lifelong learning
Dell Med considers accreditation for activities that are designed to minimize professional practice gaps while enhancing knowledge, competence and clinical performance for learners across a broad spectrum of medical specialties and professions.
CME target audiences may include practicing physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, visiting guests, medical trainees and other health care professionals within the local, national and worldwide health care community.
All accredited learning activities are developed free from the influence of Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education-defined ineligible companies. Learning activities include regularly scheduled series such as grand rounds, tumor boards, morbidity and mortality conferences and journal clubs, as well as longitudinal courses, annual conferences and asynchronous instruction, including learning modules and video‐recorded lectures.

Eligibility
CME activities are open to physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and other interprofessional providers who practice primary, specialty and subspecialty care.
Formats
Dell Med hosts live, interactive lecture-based instruction, case-based discussion, hands-on training sessions and small-group workshops. The CME program includes regularly scheduled series and large conferences covering a broad range of topics in all medical specialties. In addition, Dell Med accredits activities for Maintenance of Certification and provides asynchronous enduring materials.
The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). The Office of Continuing Medical Education only produces independent activities which are free from commercial support. They are implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).
