Continuing Medical Education

The Dell Medical School Continuing Medical Education program, or CME, strengthens the learning community by promoting patient safety, quality improvement and high value care through accredited continuing education. The program delivers comprehensive, objective, evidence-based learning experiences that advance participants’ knowledge, competence and performance. The program mission is to foster physicians’ professional growth, advance scientific discovery, encourage innovation and endorse the practice of lifelong learning.

The program considers accreditation for activities that are designed to minimize professional practice gaps and enhance knowledge, competence and clinical performance for learners across a spectrum of medical specialties. Though the program’s target audience consists primarily of physicians and physician-trainees, participation from other health professionals is welcomed. All accredited activities will be developed independently and remain free of influence from ineligible companies. Learning activities include regularly scheduled series such as grand rounds, tumor boards, morbidity and mortality conferences, journal clubs, longitudinal courses, annual conferences, and asynchronous instruction, including learning modules and video‐recorded lectures. A variety of formats are considered if appropriate for the setting, educational objectives and desired results of the activity. Formats may vary from live, in‐person, live internet or online instruction, and enduring material.

Accredited CME activities are designed and intended to produce results that enhance participants’ knowledge and competence or performance as generally recognized and accepted as within the basic medical sciences, the discipline of clinical medicine, and the provision of health care. Participants in accredited activities attain appropriate knowledge and skills to enhance services provided to patients, the general public, and the medical professions. Activities are evaluated via assessments administered to participants following each activity. Assessment reports are analyzed to determine the degree of impact on participants’ knowledge, competence and future practice.
