Biography

Abraham Bankole, M.D., was born in Nigeria and raised in Houston, Texas. He attended The University of Texas at Austin where he earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry. He earned his medical degree at UT Health San Antonio. Outside of the hospital, he enjoys all things sports and working out and enjoying Austin’s food scene. He is also committed to spending time mentoring the next generation of medical professionals.

Elizabeth (Ducky) Duckworth, M.D., MBA, was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She attended Claremont McKenna College where she completed a bachelor’s degree in science and management with a biotechnology sequence. She received her medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and her Master of Business Administration in health care management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Outside of the hospital, she spends her time giving her dog Winston plenty of scratchies, getting lost on the many hiking trails around Austin and eating breakfast tacos for dinner.

Chizitam (Chizi) Ibezim, M.D., was born and raised in Austin, Texas. He attended The University of Missouri-Kansas City where he completed a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts. He also received his medical degree from The University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. Outside of the hospital, he enjoys cooking and eating barbecue, wood-burning crafts, watching college football (“Hook ‘em!”), pro football (“Go Chiefs!”), basketball and spending time exploring with his wife.

Bandele Okelana, M.D., was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Richmond, Virginia. He attended the University of Virginia where he studied ecology. He completed medical school in Minneapolis and relocated to Austin for residency. While not at work, he enjoys road cycling, building racing drones and following Sixers basketball.

Laura Bashour, M.D., was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She attended Vanderbilt University, where she completed bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and Spanish. She received a master’s degree in structural engineering from UT Austin and worked as a forensic engineer in Dallas, Texas, before earning her medical degree at Dell Medical School. She then completed her Master of Design in Health at UT Austin. She enjoys spending time with her husband and son, trying to keep plants alive, running, hiking and traveling.

Kathryn Canavan, M.D., was born and raised in Dallas, TX. She attended The University of Texas at Dallas where she earned a bachelor’s of science in biology. She earned her medical degree from Texas A&M University. Outside of the hospital she enjoys baking, gardening, traveling with friends and family, and exploring Austin with her dog Harper.

Petar Golijanin, M.D., MBA, was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia, and raised in Novi Sad, Serbia. He moved to the U.S. at the age of 18 to attend Merrimack College, where he played on varsity tennis team. He received his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School and his MBA at Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. Outside of the hospital, he enjoys mountain biking, skiing, playing tennis and exploring the city’s food scene.

Qais Zai, M.D., was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, and grew up in Houston, Texas. He attended the University of Houston, where he completed a bachelor’s degree in biology, and received a master’s in physiology from the University of Cincinnati. He received his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School. Outside of the hospital, he enjoys cooking, basketball, video games and spending time with his friends and family.

Alec Giron, M.D., was born in Dallas, Texas and grew up in Plano, Texas. He graduated from UT Arlington with a Bachelor’s of Science in exercise science. He earned his medical degree from Texas Tech Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in Lubbock, Texas. Outside of the hospital, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three dogs. His hobbies include snowboarding, golfing, video games, and attempting to make the perfect cup of coffee.

Amanda Seymour, M.D., was born and raised in Frisco, TX. She attended Texas Tech University where she completed a Bachelor’s of Science in biochemistry. She earned her medical degree at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. Outside of the hospital, she enjoys going on adventures with her husband and little dog Bernie, playing guitar, backpacking, and finding all the best coffee shops in town.

Cassidy Shields, M.D., was born and raised in San Diego, California. She attended the University of California, Los Angeles where she earned a degree in psychobiology. She received her medical degree from the University of California, San Diego. Outside of the hospital, she enjoys spending time with friends and family on the lake, yoga, sand volleyball, and trying the best queso in Austin.

Semran Thamer, M.D., was born in Iraq and grew up in El Paso, Texas. He attended New York University, where he completed his bachelor’s in global public health and chemistry. He received his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School. Outside of the hospital, he enjoys cooking, eating, exploring Austin with friends, and pretty much anything to do with cars.

Ebubechi Adindu, M.D., was born and raised in Houston, TX. He attended the University of Kentucky where he received a Bachelor’s of Science in biology and a Bachelor’s of Arts in chemistry. He subsequently returned to Houston where he received a medical degree from the Baylor College of Medicine. Outside of orthopaedics he enjoys trying new restaurants, playing video games, all things basketball and spending time with his friends and family. He avidly enjoys research and mentorship, both of which he hopes to continue being involved and productive in during his career.

Nicholas Girardi, M.D., was born and raised in Fort Collins, Colorado. He played college basketball for a year at Drake University and finished undergrad at CU Boulder graduating summa cum laude in neuroscience. He earned his medical degree at University of Colorado. Outside of orthopaedics, he enjoys traveling, hunting, skiing, and playing golf and pick-up basketball.

Lynsey Malin, M.D., was born and raised in Holmen, WI. She attended Texas Christian University where she completed bachelor’s degrees in biology and entrepreneurial management. She earned her medical degree at the University of Minnesota. Outside of the hospital, she enjoys cooking, going on walks with her fiancé, yoga, seeing movies and trying new restaurants in Austin.

Nickolas Stewart, M.D., was born and raised in Winters, California. Before college, Nick sold Harley-Davidson motorcycles and was a mailman for the United States Postal Service. He spends his free time with his wife and kid, cooking, and reading science fiction and fantasy books.
