Welcome to the Dell Medical School Internal Medicine Residency program! Residency is such a special time in a doctor’s personal and professional lives! My goal is to help each resident find happiness and success in the practice of medicine, so I am glad you are considering training with us.
Our program has been through a period of tremendous growth. We maintain our identity and culture that was well-established in our historical roots as a community program at the Travis County Brackenridge Hospital. We strive to provide the best care to people who have been historically underserved in our community, and I am so proud of our faculty and residents who are deeply committed each day to this work.
Since Dell Medical School’s opening, our mission has been solidified and expanded to “revolutionize how people get and stay healthy.” The school has brought new resources to achieve this mission, and many of these developments are what excite me about working here each day. The department leadership team members are general internists who are transforming health care to focus on value. Our residents benefit from diverse faculty who have come from all over the country, attracted by the sense of purpose, the love of teaching and the Austin and Dell Med communities. We have grown our programs to include the Distinction Program for Care Transformation, VA-based Primary Care Track, fellowships, global health partnerships in Kenya and Mexico as well as numerous new curriculum offerings like medical education, POCUS electives and a CICU rotation at Ascension Seton Medical Center.
But the heart and soul of our program are our residents and chief residents. Teaching and mentoring them is a privilege, and my primary motivation is to continuously improve their training experience. Therefore, as a program we value feedback, new ideas and change with the mindset of quality improvement. The residents’ care for our patients and each other is inspiring and the foundation of the spirit of our program. Further, their work ethic, sense of responsibility and desire to learn and grow create a rich and safe educational environment. I hope these webpages introduce you to our curriculum, faculty and opportunities, but they can’t capture the culture and camaraderie of which we are most proud!
