John-Paul was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He attended The University of Texas at Austin where he completed a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in business. He received his medical degree from McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas at Houston. Outside of the hospital, JP enjoys traveling the world, cooking authentic, secret family-recipe Italian dishes, exploring local breweries, and wholeheartedly indulging in all things sports — specifically Texas Longhorns Football.
Bonnie Du Cruz

Bio
Bonnie grew up on the Texas-Mexico border in Brownsville, TX. She studied English and Spanish literature at the University of Notre Dame, where she had formative experiences serving diverse communities in the U.S. and abroad. She earned her M.D. and a master’s in design in health from Dell Med where she gained understanding of the systemic factors that impact healthcare delivery. After residency, she will pursue fellowship training in palliative care followed by trauma and critical care. Outside of the hospital she can be found at group fitness classes, at local coffee shops, or in the great outdoors.
Morgan Gaither

Bio
Morgan grew up in Clarksville, Tennessee where she received a bachelor’s in physics at Austin Peay State University before earning a master’s in engineering management from The George Washington University. She served in the Maryland Air National Guard where she worked in emergency management and chemical and biological weapons defense. Concurrently, she tested and evaluated transportation security systems at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory before entering medical school. Outside of residency she enjoys adventures with her husband and three children, live music, and finding the best cocktails in town.
Alexandra MacHugh

Bio
Alexandra grew up in Sacramento, California. She earned a Bachelor’s of Arts in sociology at UCLA and a medical degree from California Northstate University College of Medicine. Outside of work she loves visiting her family in Romania, rock climbing, and going to EDM shows around Austin.

Katie was born and raised in Sulphur, Louisiana. She completed her bachelor’s in mechanical engineering and worked in oil and gas for seven years in Los Angeles, CA and Houston, TX. She completed a post-baccalaureate premedical program at Columbia University and received her medical degree and MPH from Dell Med. Outside of the hospital you can find her enjoying time traveling, at coffee shops, baking, spending time with family and watching reality TV.

Mark was born and raised in Kosciusko, Mississippi. He attended Mississippi State University where he studied chemistry and developed a love/hate relationship with Mississippi State sports. He then attended Mississippi College for a master’s degree in biomedical science before earning his medical degree at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Outside of surgery, he enjoys biking local trails, watching movies, and hanging out with friends.

Lee Fuentes, M.D., MBA, was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. He attended the University of Notre Dame where he completed a bachelor’s degree in science and business. He received his medical degree from Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin and his MBA from UT’s McCombs School of Business. Outside of the hospital, he enjoys exploring Austin’s food scene, baking, golfing and ski vacations.
Gulchin Watashe

Bio
Gulchin was born and raised in Baku, Azerbaijan, and immigrated to the United States at the age of 17. She graduated from Boston University with a bachelor’s degree in biology. During her gap year, she continued to live in Boston, where she worked as a medical scribe and volunteered at a local hospital. She then moved cross-country to attend California University of Science and Medicine’s School of Medicine, where she received her Master of Biomedical Sciences in addition to her medical degree. Outside of medicine, she enjoys making charcuterie boards, traveling the world, and spending time with her friends and family.

Bio
Christina was born in Beloit, Wisconsin, and she grew up in the greater Chicago area. She attended Rice University where she majored in biochemistry and cell biology, and then she worked as a strategy and operations consultant in Houston before earning her medical degree at Dell Med and her master’s in health care transformation at the McCombs School of Business. Outside of the hospital, she spends her free time exploring Austin’s restaurant scene and training for her next multi-day hike.
Fiorella Yep Mendizabal

Fiorella “Fio” Yep Mendizabal, M.D., is originally from Lima, Peru. Her family immigrated to the United States when she was ten and settled in Indiana. She then attended Purdue University for undergrad and went to medical school at Indiana University. In her free time she enjoys taking care of her multi colored axolotls and leopard geckos. She also enjoys weightlifting, scuba diving and watching a good anime.

Oyin was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, and emigrated to the United States at the age of 16. She attended Stony Brook University, where she received a Bachelor of Science in biology — and a year later, a nursing degree. She then earned a master’s in nursing at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut, where she worked as a nurse practitioner for the next few years before obtaining her medical degree at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine in Rochester, Michigan. In her free time, she enjoys exploring with her dog, listening to music and traveling with friends.
Giovanna Dela Tejera

Giovanna De La Tejera was born and raised in the border town of McAllen, Texas. She completed her undergraduate studies at The University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a Bachelor of Science and Arts in human development and family science. She then moved a few hours east and received her medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Outside of work, Giovanna enjoys spending her time dancing, discovering new restaurants and hiking.

Sam was born and raised in Long Beach, California. She studied psychology and neuroscience at College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, where she was also a collegiate pole vaulter and served as captain of the women’s track and field team. After graduating, Sam spent a year teaching on a Fulbright grant in Thailand and two years working in clinical research at Massachusetts General Hospital. She earned her medical degree from Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, where she discovered her love for surgery. In her free time, Sam enjoys training for triathalons with her husband and planning themed dinner parties.

Originally from Austin, Texas, Madysen is excited to return home to continue her training and serve the community that shaped her. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she double majored in biology and chemistry, before receiving her medical degree from McGovern Medical School at UT Health Houston. Her professional interests include providing compassionate, patient-centered care, surgical education and quality improvement. Outside of medicine, she enjoys practicing yoga, painting, trying new restaurants and watching home renovation shows with family and friends.

Karla was born in El Paso, Texas and raised across the border in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. She completed her bachelor of science in cellular and molecular biochemistry at The University of Texas at El Paso and during her gap year she worked investigating the epigenetics of mental health disorders. She received her medical degree from Texas Tech Health Science Center El Paso. Outside of the hospital, Karla enjoys spending time with her fiance, painting, collecting records, cooking, playing tennis and watching baseball.

Devin was raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. He fell in love with Texas during his undergraduate studies at Baylor University where he completed his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry. He earned his medical degree from Creighton University at their health science campus in Phoenix, Arizona. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time at Lake Travis, watching his favorite sports teams, and exploring the outdoors through hiking and camping.

Matthew was born in Grapevine, Texas, but has proudly called Austin home for more than a decade. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, with a minor in business, from The University of Texas at Austin before receiving his medical degree from Texas A&M University College of Medicine. Before starting in medicine, Matt spent his time working as a summer camp counselor and a deckhand on Lake Travis. Outside the hospital, Matt enjoys golfing, hiking, and pulling for the Texas Longhorns with his wife, Sierra, and their chocolate lab, Bentley.
Katherine "KC" Koepp

KC was born and raised in Vienna, Virginia. She attended the United States Naval Academy, where she earned a bachelors of science in chemistry and captained the women’s basketball team. After graduation, she was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps, ultimately serving as a KC-130J pilot. She later pursued medicine at Dell Medl, where she took a particular interest in medical humanities and ethics. Outside the hospital, KC is happiest spending time with her husband, their three wonderfully rowdy boys, and their beloved elder chocolate lab, CB.
Sukruthi Yerramreddy

Sukruthi was born in Warangal, India, and moved to Lexington, Kentucky at the age of five, where she was raised. She attended the University of Kentucky before earning her medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. During medical school, she developed an interest in trauma and acute care surgery through her clinical experiences, research and involvement in global and public health initiatives. Outside of the hospital, she enjoys hiking, traveling, discovering new coffee shops and restaurants, hosting friends and family, and cheering on the Kentucky Wildcats.

Nate was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. He attended Creighton University where he completed his bachelors degree in biology in 2015. Before pursuing medical school, he spent several years working as a tennis pro and coaching at a high school. Nate went on to earn his medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine. After this year, he will be headed back home to Omaha for anesthesiology residency at University of Nebraska Medical Center. Nate enjoys golfing, collecting watches, watching movies, and spending time with his wife, daughter and two dogs.

Catherine was born and raised in Huntington Beach, California. She attended the University of Dallas, where she completed a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry with a minor in piano performance. She received her medical degree from UT Health San Antonio. Catherine has played piano since age three, with Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 and the Pletnev arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s Pas de Deux among her favorites to play, and swam competitively on a Junior Olympic team from ages 11 to 13. Outside of the hospital, Cat enjoys oil painting, crocheting, lifting at the gym and baking.

Kevin was born in Vietnam and immigrated to the United States when he was seven. He completed his undergraduate education at The University of Texas at Austin, earning a Bachelor of Science and Arts in Neuroscience. He remained in Austin to pursue his medical degree and Master of Business Administration at Dell Medical School, where he developed an interest in value-based healthcare, care delivery innovation, and improving health systems to better serve patients and communities. Outside the hospital, Kevin enjoys spending time with his wife and their four cats, traveling and trying new restaurants.

Krystle Henderson, M.D., was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. She attended The University of Texas at Austin, where she completed a bachelor’s degree in applied learning development with a minor in kinesiology. She also served as captain of the Texas Longhorns women’s basketball team. She went on to play professional basketball in Morocco, Africa before retiring and becoming an EMT. She earned her medical degree at McGovern Medical School. Outside of the hospital, she enjoys working out, attending sporting events, mentoring youth, exploring Austin’s food scene, and spending time with family, friends, and her handsome puppy Zeus.
