John-Paul was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He attended The University of Texas at Austin where he completed a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in business. He received his medical degree from McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas at Houston. Outside of the hospital, JP enjoys traveling the world, cooking authentic, secret family-recipe Italian dishes, exploring local breweries, hanging out with Javier Benitez, and wholeheartedly indulging in all things sports – specifically Texas Longhorns Football.
Joshua L. Crapps

Bio
Joshua was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. He attended the University of Dallas, where he played collegiate baseball and graduated with a degree in chemistry. He earned his medical degree from Texas A&M University. Outside of the hospital, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three children as well as most outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing and camping.
Kathryn McElhinney

Kathryn is a native Austinite. She stayed local and attended The University of Texas at Austin and completed her degree in biochemistry. She completed medical school in Houston at McGovern Medical School with a concentration in medical humanities. When not in the operating room, Kathryn spends her time with her husband playing different sports and traveling.
Rishi Rawat

Bio
Rishi was raised in Boulder, CO. He attended the University of California, Berkeley and obtained a bachelor’s degree in molecular biology. He then attended the University of Southern California where he completed his M.D.-PhD degree. For his thesis, he developed deep learning algorithms to analyze pathology slides to predict breast cancer outcomes. Outside of the hospital, he enjoys grappling, biking, and live music.

Bonnie Du Cruz

Bio
Bonnie grew up on the Texas-Mexico border in Brownsville, TX. She studied English and Spanish literature at the University of Notre Dame, where she had formative experiences serving diverse communities in the U.S. and abroad. She earned her M.D. and a master’s in design in health from Dell Med where she gained understanding of the systemic factors that impact healthcare delivery. Outside of the hospital she can be found at group fitness classes, at local coffee shops, or in the great outdoors.
Morgan Gaither

Bio
Morgan grew up in Clarksville, Tennessee where she received a bachelor’s in physics at Austin Peay State University before earning a master’s in engineering management from The George Washington University. She served in the Maryland Air National Guard where she worked in emergency management and chemical and biological weapons defense. Concurrently, she tested and evaluated transportation security systems at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory before entering medical school. Outside of residency she enjoys adventures with her husband and three children, live music, and finding the best cocktails in town.

Alexandra grew up in Sacramento, California. She earned a Bachelor’s of Arts in sociology at UCLA and a medical degree from California Northstate University College of Medicine. Outside of work she loves visiting her family in Romania, rock climbing, and going to EDM shows around Austin.

Katie was born and raised in Sulphur, Louisiana. She completed bachelor’s in mechanical engineering and worked in oil and gas for seven years in Los Angeles, CA and Houston, TX. She completed a post-baccalaureate premedical program at Columbia University and received her medical degree from Dell Med. Outside of the hospital she enjoys cooking, baking, reality TV, and the Smartless podcast.

Bio
Mark was born and raised in Kosciusko, Mississippi. He attended Mississippi State University where he studied chemistry and developed a love/hate relationship with Mississippi State sports. He then attended Mississippi College for a master’s degree in biomedical science before earning his medical degree at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Outside of surgery, he enjoys biking local trails, watching movies, and hanging out with friends.
Krystle Henderson

Bio
Krystle was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. She attended The University of Texas at Austin where she completed a bachelor’s degree in applied learning development with a minor in kinesiology. She served as captain of the Texas Longhorns women’s basketball team. She went on to play professional basketball in Morocco, Africa before retiring and becoming an EMT. She earned her medical degree at McGovern Medical School. Outside of the hospital, she enjoys working out, attending sporting events, mentoring youth, exploring Austin’s food scene, and spending time with family, friends, and her handsome puppy Zeus.
Gulchin Isayeva

Bio
Gulchin was born and raised in Baku, Azerbaijan, and immigrated to the United States at the age of 17. She graduated from Boston University with a bachelor’s degree in biology. During her gap year, she continued to live in Boston, where she worked as a medical scribe and volunteered at a local hospital. She then moved cross-country to attend California University of Science and Medicine’s School of Medicine, where she received her Master of Biomedical Sciences in addition to her medical degree. Outside of medicine, she enjoys making charcuterie boards, traveling the world, and spending time with her friends and family.

Bio
Christina was born in Beloit, Wisconsin and raised between Beloit and Chicago, Illinois. She attended Rice University where she majored in biochemistry and cell biology, and then she worked as a strategy and operations consultant in Houston before earning her medical degree at Dell Med and her master’s in health care transformation at the McCombs School of Business. Outside of the hospital, she enjoys trekking, eating, and crocheting.

Oyinkansola Akinpelu

Oyin was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, and emigrated to the United States at the age of 16. She attended Stony Brook University, where she received a Bachelor of Science in biology — and a year later, a nursing degree. She then earned a master’s in nursing at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut, where she worked as a nurse practitioner for the next few years before obtaining her medical degree at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine in Rochester, Michigan. In her free time, she enjoys exploring with her dog, listening to music and traveling with friends.
Giovanna Dela Tejera

Giovanna De La Tejera was born and raised in the border town of McAllen, Texas. She completed her undergraduate studies at The University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a Bachelor of Science and Arts in human development and family science. She then moved a few hours east and received her medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Outside of work, Giovanna enjoys spending her time dancing, discovering new restaurants and hiking.

Sam was born and raised in Long Beach, California. She studied psychology and neuroscience at College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, where she was also a collegiate pole vaulter and served as captain of the women’s track and field team. After graduating, Sam spent a year teaching on a Fulbright grant in Thailand and two years working in clinical research at Massachusetts General Hospital. She earned her medical degree from Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, where she discovered her love for surgery. In her free time, Sam enjoys training for triathalons with her husband and planning themed dinner parties.
