The Division of Elective General Surgery within the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care provides comprehensive surgical management of hernias, gallbladder disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), esophageal disorders, esophageal cancer, endocrine disorders (thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal disorders), soft tissue masses and the breadth of general surgery.
The division includes surgeons who operate under the umbrella of Digestive Health, a partnership between UT Health Austin and Ascension Seton. This integrated clinical practice unit includes specialists in Gastroenterology, Foregut and Colorectal surgery. The Heartburn and Esophageal Disorders Center and IBD Center are nested within this clinic as well.
The surgeons in the division use the latest technology and techniques available to ensure the highest quality of care and optimal outcomes for patients. The majority of operations on this service are performed either robotically or with advanced laparoscopic and endoscopic techniques.
