About

Elisa Furay, M.D., is a general surgeon with fellowship training in advanced endoscopy and minimally invasive surgical techniques in both general surgery as well as foregut surgery, which includes both benign and malignant esophageal and gastric disorders.

Furay graduated with honors from The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s in science. She then went on to medical school at The University of Toledo College of Medicine in Ohio and eventually made her way to Texas for her general surgery training at The University of Texas at Austin. Here she served as the administrative chief resident during her final year. She then completed her fellowship in advanced GI/minimally invasive foregut surgery at the University of Southern California prior to returning to UT Austin to join the Digestive Disease Center as surgical faculty.

Furay specializes in state-of-the-art minimally invasive surgical techniques, including endoscopic, laparoscopic and robotic interventions. Her practice includes caring for gallbladder disorders, abdominal wall hernias and benign and malignant foregut diseases. She has a special interest in hiatal hernias, acid reflux, gastroparesis and gastric and esophageal cancers.

In addition to her clinical practice, Furay is involved in teaching surgery residents and educating medical students. She is also involved in research and national surgical organizations. In her free time Furay enjoys spending time with friends, traveling, listening to music and wake surfing.
