Education is a critical element to the mission of the Department of Psychiatry. The department’s strategy is to train the next generation of mental health clinicians and leaders to disseminate innovative care models as widely as possible. One of the department’s highest priorities is to prepare and inspire a diverse workforce of physicians and scientists through excellence in medical education.

Undergraduate Medical Education
Medical students’ experience in the Psychiatry Clerkship in their second year gives them experience in the field of psychiatry. Additionally, Dell Med students with a particular interest in the field may take part in the Psychiatry Student Interest Group.
Integrated Behavioral Health Scholars Program
An innovative cross-campus collaboration, the Integrated Behavioral Health Scholars Program works to build a diverse and culturally competent behavioral health workforce in Central Texas.
Graduate Portfolio Program
The department hosts a Graduate Portfolio in Integrated Behavioral Health facilitated by the Graduate School at The University of Texas at Austin.
Continuing Medical Education
The department holds monthly Psychiatry Grand Rounds along with other events throughout the year that provide clinicians with CME credit.
