Education Programs
Education is a critical element to the mission of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. The department’s strategy is to train the next generation of mental health clinicians and leaders to disseminate innovative care models as widely as possible. One of the department’s highest priorities is to prepare and inspire a diverse workforce of physicians and scientists through excellence in medical education.
Undergraduate Medical Education
Medical students’ experience in the Psychiatry Clerkship in their second year gives them experience in the field of psychiatry. Additionally, Dell Med students with a particular interest in the field may take part in the Psychiatry Student Interest Group.
Graduate Medical Education
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is home to the Psychiatry Residency and the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry and Geriatric Psychiatry fellowships.
Graduate Psychology Education
The department offers a psychology internship and a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pediatric Psychology in collaboration with Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas.
Continuing Medical Education
The department holds monthly Psychiatry Grand Rounds along with other events throughout the year that provide clinicians with CME credit.
