On behalf of our faculty, residents and staff, I am pleased to introduce you to the Pediatric Residency program at Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin. We are excited about your interest in our residency program, and I invite you to learn more about us.

The program has been training pediatric residents and providing services to the children of Austin and Central Texas for over 40 years. The teaching staff includes an impressive array of general pediatricians, hospitalists and specialists, all of whom are dedicated to the development of strong pediatricians who are well-prepared for careers in either general pediatrics or a pediatric subspecialty.

The program’s primary teaching facility is the Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas. This state-of-the-art, free-standing children’s hospital continues to expand to meet the growing needs of Central Texas’ children through the rapid expansion of clinical programs. The campus also includes two pediatric subspecialty clinic buildings and UT’s Dell Pediatric Research Institute. Medical education in Austin is also enhanced by our affiliation with Dell Med and UT, with the opportunity to work with medical students and pediatric fellows.

We strive to provide all residents a strong foundation in pediatric primary care. Residents provide care for a diverse patient population, including care for medically underserved and vulnerable patient populations. Residents gain exposure to working with patients and families in need of additional resources and advocacy, and have additional opportunities to work directly with the state legislature due to our close proximity in the state capital. Residents not only gain exposure to working with outstanding physicians, they also learn an interdisciplinary approach to patient care and teamwork. In addition to clinical training in pediatrics, our residents learn more about the role of the physician in the community, as advocates, leaders, researchers and teachers.

Outside the hospital, residents enjoy everything Austin has to offer. From its hiking and biking trails, to its numerous lakes and parks, to its live music scene and great restaurants, Austin is a fun, dynamic city that is perfect for both young professionals and growing families.
