The Neuroendovascular Fellowship at Dell Medical School is accredited by the Committee on Advanced Subspecialty Training and the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties, offering a well-rounded curriculum that combines clinical rotations, teaching opportunities, conference presentations and dedicated clinical research.
The fellowship is designed to provide comprehensive training in neuroendovascular procedures, fostering the development of expertise in both clinical practice and research.
Primary Procedural Sites
Fellows will spend 24 months primarily working in the neuroendovascular suites at Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas and Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin. They will be involved in all aspects of patient care, including patient assessments, procedural explanations, informed consent discussions and case reviews with attending faculty.
As fellows gain experience, they will gradually take on a larger role in procedures under the supervision of attending physicians. In addition to hands-on procedural work, fellows will review neuroradiological imaging, clinical data, and complete procedural reports and postprocedural orders.
Outpatient Clinic Rotation
Each fellow will spend one half-day per week in the outpatient neuroendovascular clinic throughout the duration of the program. This will include both preprocedural assessments and postprocedural follow-up evaluations. Under faculty supervision, fellows will evaluate patients, order necessary diagnostic tests and recommend appropriate therapies.
Teaching & Collaboration
The fellowship program integrates fellows into the dynamic academic environment of Dell Medical School. Fellows will have opportunities to mentor and teach medical students and residents. They will also collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in the care of patients, including specialists from neurology, neurosurgery, neurocritical care, emergency medicine and vascular surgery.
Research Opportunities
Research is a core component of the fellowship, with fellows encouraged to engage in both clinical trials and independent investigator-initiated studies. The program supports participation in cutting-edge clinical research, including multiple ongoing clinical trials. Fellows will gain hands-on experience with novel technologies and methods used in clinical trials and are expected to contribute to both local and national projects within the Ascension network.
Conferences & Presentations
Fellows will actively participate in and contribute to various conferences, where they will present patient cases, discuss procedural strategies and review clinical outcomes. Presentations will be supported by relevant literature to ensure evidence-based practice. Key conferences include:
- Multiday stroke huddle/case conference
- Monthly morbidity and mortality conference
- Monthly vascular journal club
- Monthly vascular case conference
These conferences provide a collaborative platform for learning professional development, enhancing fellows’ understanding of current practices and emerging trends in the fields.
