Thank you for your interest in the Joseph Miles Abell Jr., M.D., Clinical Fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery. Our program is a truly unique opportunity to combine advanced training in adult reconstruction techniques with participation in the design and implementation of new value-based care delivery systems. No other health system in the country is rethinking the way that we care for patients like Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin.
Our training program is based primarily at Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas, a 75,000-visit emergency department urban Level 1 Trauma Center. This hospital is the referral center for all of Central Texas and is the only adult Level 1 Trauma Center within 60 miles. Dell Seton’s mission is at the heart of our core values, acting as the safety net for the city’s most sick and vulnerable patients. It also provides unparalleled training in orthopaedic trauma care and complex total joint replacement. Balancing our curriculum is the opportunity to work at Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin, a busy private community hospital with 38 operating suites and more than 1,000 joint replacement procedures per year.
Dell Med has attracted top faculty members from around the country as well as the best and brightest surgeons in the Austin community. Our faculty offer both breadth and depth of expertise dedicated to your education and are led by Kevin Bozic, M.D., MBA, a household name in orthopaedic surgery who has decades of experience in teaching residents and fellows.
The Austin area is a great place to live and work and has been listed in Kiplinger’s “Top 10 Cities to Live, Work and Play,” Outside Magazine’s “America’s Best Cities” and several other national top-10 lists. It’s pretty much guaranteed that you will enjoy spending a year in Austin.
Thank you for visiting with us and taking the time to learn about our program. We are proud of what it has to offer. We look forward to hosting you in our dynamic medical community, and we hope you consider training with us.
Sincerely,
Karl Koenig, M.D., M.S.
