In this installment of Internal Medicine Visiting Speaker series, Amitabh Chak, M.D., presents “Barrett’s Esophagus: From Bedside to Bench and Back.” Chak is a professor of medicine and oncology at Case Western Reserve University.

Objectives

By the end of this presentation, the audience participant should be able to:

  1. Identify risk factors for Barrett’s esophagus and esophageal cancer that should lead to endoscopic screening.
  2. Define familial risk of Barrett’s esophagus.
  3. Understand how alterations in specific inherited genes contribute to development of Barrett’s esophagus.

  • Primary: Department of Internal Medicine faculty, residents and fellows; associate providers
  • Secondary: Medical students, family medicine faculty and residents
