Todd Agan, M.A.

About

Todd Agan, M.A., is the lead interpreter for the Division of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine. He holds the Certificate of Interpretation and Certificate of Transliteration through the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf as well as master interpreter and medical interpreter certifications through the Texas Board for Evaluation of Interpreters. His interests focus on language access for deaf patients in medical settings as well as the emerging role of interpreters specialize in working with deaf physicians and other health care professionals.

Agan is a subject matter expert for the Texas medical interpreter certification for sign language interpreters, and he is very involved with the evaluation and certification of interpreters, particularly those who work in medical settings across the U.S. He regularly gives talks at the local, state and national levels on various topics relating to interpreting in health care settings.

Prior to joining Dell Medical School, Agan was the lead interpreter for the Division of Hospital Medicine at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, an adjunct professor in the Department of American Sign Language and Interpreting at San Antonio College, and a long-time member of the Texas Board for Evaluation of Interpreters Advisory Committee.
