About
Salim Saiyed, M.D., MBA, FAMIA, leads the development and growth of the informatics strategy for The University of Texas Medical Center. His role includes oversight of technology implementation, optimization, informatics, governance, analytics and digital health, ensuring that care delivery, education and research is data-driven, highly efficient and enabled by cutting-edge technology. Saiyed is also an assistant professor of internal medicine and population health at Dell Medical School and practices as a hospitalist. He is double board-certified in clinical informatics and family medicine, and he is a fellow of the American Medical Informatics Association.
Saiyed is a physician-executive with more than 15 years of chief medical informatics officer experience leading initiatives in digital health transformation, virtual care, informatics, Epic implementation and artificial intelligence. His interests include clinical decision support, AI, clinician burnout, digital health and innovative models of care. He has developed innovative approaches for reimagining health care delivery, using technology to improve clinician and patient experiences.
Saiyed earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Kentucky and his medical degree from Ross University. He completed his family medicine residency training at Creighton University in Phoenix, Arizona, where he served as chief graduate medical education resident. Subsequently, Saiyed earned a postbaccalaureate certificate in clinical informatics at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and an MBA degree.
He is a national speaker with numerous peer-reviewed publications on topics of informatics. As an educator, Saiyed taught “Leading Health Care Change” at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
Saiyed is a well-published researcher on informatics topics and serves as a reviewer for many journals. He has served on several national steering committees such as the Epic Telehealth Advisory and the National Board of Telehealth.
