Mohammad Bashashati, M.D.

About

Mohammad Bashashati, M.D., is a gastroenterologist and the Director of Neurogastroenterology and Motility within Digestive Health, a clinical partnership between Ascension and UT Health Austin. He specializes in neurogastroenterology and motility, with expertise in acid reflux, swallowing disorders, gastroparesis, gastric electrical stimulation, cyclic vomiting syndrome, rumination syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), pelvic floor dysfunction, chronic constipation, chronic diarrhea and fecal incontinence. Additionally, Dr. Bashashati is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Internal Medicine at The University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Bashashati earned his medical degree from Lorestan University of Medical Sciences. He completed both a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in gastroenterology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso as well as a postdoctoral fellowship in enteric neuroscience-physiology and pharmacology at the University of Calgary in Canada.

Dr. Bashashati’s research interests include gastroparesis, cyclic vomiting syndrome, gastric electrical stimulation and the role of endocannabinoids in the GI tract. He has published more than 100 research papers in prestigious journals, including Nature Medicine, and has served on the editorial boards of several journals, including Digestive Diseases and Sciences and Journal of Investigative Medicine.
