Michael J. Ryan

About

Michael J. Ryan serves as the chief information officer at Dell Medical School, where he is responsible for the technology, digital and data strategies to support the clinical practice, education and research mission of the school. Additionally, he serves as chief health care technology, digital and data strategist at The University of Texas at Austin, where he ensures that the related work of the medical school and The University of Texas Medical Center are aligned with the broader University system and Change Starts Here strategic plan.

Prior to joining Dell Med, Ryan worked at Mayo Clinic, where since 2020, he was the chief administrative officer at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City operated under a joint venture between Mayo Clinic and Abu Dhabi Health Services Company. In his role, in partnership with the physician CEO, he was responsible for all aspects of the strategic and operating plan to transform the facility into an academic destination medical center to serve patients with complex care needs.

Prior to Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, he worked in information Technology at Mayo Clinic, serving as chair of the department since 2011. In that role, he partnered with executive leadership to provide all aspects of technology support to meet the needs of Mayo Clinic patients. He was responsible for large-scale operations, service delivery, workforce development and transformational projects.

Ryan received his bachelor’s degree from Metropolitan State University in Minnesota and his master’s in management from Cardinal Stritch University in Wisconsin.
