About

Jo Busch is a board-certified internal medicine hospitalist at Dell Medical School with the Division of Hospital Medicine. She received her M. Phil. in bioscience enterprise from the University of Cambridge and then her M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. Her Ph.D. dissertation focused on the initial characterization of TMEM106B, a protein involved in lysosomal pathways, which has now been found to be a major host factor for SARS-COV-2. After her M.D. and Ph.D., she completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at UT Southwestern before coming to Dell Med in 2019.

At Dell Med, Busch is the hospitalist lead for the abdominal transplant program, which is comprised of a multidisciplinary team caring for transplant patients in conjunction with transplant surgeons and renal transplant physicians. She is also involved in basic and clinical research on COVID-19, medical education, medical ethics and gender equity advocacy. Her interests additionally include hematology and oncology as well as leveraging science, technology and innovation to improve patient outcomes. She enjoys mentoring students and residents and working with all members of Dell Med to deliver safe and equitable care.
