Heather Herrington, M.D.

About

Heather Herrington, M.D., is an associate professor in the Department of Internal Medicine. As a geriatrician and palliative care clinician educator, she joined the faculty at Dell Medical School to establish a palliative care clinic at the Austin VA Outpatient Clinic. She is also the VA site director for the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship.

She was previously on faculty at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she served as the Division Inpatient Clinical Core Leader and as the Palliative Medicine Fellowship director and associate director. She was also PI of a National Institutes of Health-sponsored Center of Excellence in Pain Education contract and a K01 Geriatric Academic Career Award.

She received additional training in medical education through the Harvard Macy Institute and taught as a returning faculty scholar at its medical education course “Program for Educators in Health Professions.” She was also a National John A. Hartford Foundation Center of Excellence Geriatric Clinician Educator Scholar.
