He also serves as an adjunct faculty member for St. Petersburg College College of Health Sciences. He is a licensed and board-certified Clinical Nurse Specialist in the state of Texas, and he is a registered dental hygienist in the state of Florida.

Butz earned his master’s in nursing from the University of South Alabama, with an adult-gerontology clinical nurse specialist concentration. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in nursing practice in the same concentration. Other graduate school experience includes an MPH from the University of South Florida, with a concentration in public health practice and infection control. Before his work in critical care, Butz provided direct patient care as a bedside med/surg nurse, charge nurse and house supervisor.

Prior to becoming an RN/APRN, Butz was a faculty member at St. Petersburg College providing education in a health services administration track focusing on preparing future health care leaders with baccalaureate-level education centered on student success. From 2005-2011, Butz was a practicing dental hygienist in a joint periodontist/orthodontic practice. He also served on the board of the Florida Dental Hygiene Association from 2005-2013.

Butz’s current clinical focus is providing comprehensive inpatient care in the intensive care unit for our most vulnerable patients. As a patient advocate, Butz helps to close the gap with our underserved patient populations while continuing to serve the Austin community.

In his free time, Butz focuses on spending time with his family and new miniature schnauzer puppy, Kaj. He also enjoys photography and an extensive collection of both common and rare indoor plants.
