About
Balu Lakshmanan, M.D., is an academic hospitalist and faculty member within the Internal Medicine Residency at Dell Medical School. He currently serves as an assistant chief for the Department of Hospital Medicine, chairing the scheduling, recruitment and onboarding committees and co-chairing the GME/DHM committee.
Prior to joining Dell Med, he trained at University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) for his internal medicine residency, serving as a fourth year post grad chief, and subsequently spend four years as associate program director of internal medicine. Lakshmanan finished his time at UMMS as interim program director of internal medicine as well as academic hospitalist group director.
Lakshmanan has training from the Academy of Communication in Healthcare and enjoys sharing his learnings with his team and implementing his skills with patients. Outside of practicing medicine, Lakshmanan has a personal passion for holistic wellness tactics and integrating science-based tools into everyday life. His interests include HIIT workouts, long distance cycling, hiking, cooking spicy Indian food and spending time with his friends and family.
