Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency

Delivering Comprehensive Training in Obstetrics & Gynecology

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency program at Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin is a fully accredited, four-year training program designed to deliver knowledge and experiences to residents that prepare them for a career as a specialist in general obstetrics and gynecology or subspecialty fellowship training.

The program trains residents in traditional areas of obstetrics and gynecology including prenatal care, labor and delivery, postpartum care, ambulatory gynecology and operative gynecologic procedures. Subspecialty exposure includes female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, maternal-fetal medicine, oncology, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, pediatric and adolescent gynecology, family planning and integrative practice.

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency is affiliated with Dell Med’s Department of Women’s Health.

Training Facilities

Dell Seton Medical Center at UT Austin.

Dell Seton Medical Center — the primary teaching hospital for Dell Med — was built in 2017 by Ascension Seton. As Austin’s only urban Level I trauma center, it serves a diverse population and was recently named the one of the top 10 most socially responsible hospitals in America.. Dell Seton’s collaboration with the medical school, new outpatient sites and wide range of specialty services makes it the ideal site for many of the program’s gynecologic and subspecialty surgeries.

Ascension Seton Medical Center.

The mission of this top-rated medical and surgical Magnet hospital is to provide excellent care to the Central Austin community. It is the site of the labor and delivery unit where residents serve patients from various practices. In addition, the program has active gynecologic, minimally invasive surgery and specialty surgical services at Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin.

CommUnityCare Health Centers operates a large network of Federally Qualified Health Centers providing affordable and culturally competent primary and specialty care throughout the greater Austin area. Resident physicians provide complex obstetrical and gynecologic care at three consultative and referral sites for surrounding low-risk clinics within the network.

Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas.

Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas is a freestanding pediatric facility with a Level IV neonatal intensive care unit and a Level IV epilepsy designation. As the only pediatric Level I trauma center in the region, this 248-bed facility and its associated clinics serves a 46-county area.

About the Application Process

The program offers five positions per year. Applications are accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service beginning Sept. 29.

Varied Ways to Learn & Train

In addition to hands-on experience and clinical instruction, the curriculum includes lecture-based grand rounds, simulation and skills workshops, small group discussions and self-directed learning.
