Details & How to Apply
The Integrated Behavioral Health Scholars are a diverse cohort of trainees from educational psychology, social work, nursing, psychology and psychiatry. Field-based training experiences are available for trainees at different phases in their graduate programs. All scholars train in integrated and/or interdisciplinary settings with an emphasis on delivering culturally responsive, evidence-based mental health care. Funding support for these training programs comes from the Health Resources and Services Administration.
Program Benefits
All IBH Scholars follow a competency-based curriculum focused on skills development in three key areas: integrated behavioral health, interprofessional practice and cultural humility. The aim is to train students from different disciplines together so they are prepared to work collaboratively as health care professionals.
Benefits of participating in the program include the following:
- Ability to attend didactic seminars and workshops on integrated health, interprofessional practice, and content specific to each concentration (Addiction and Recovery, Youth and Family).
- Trainings specific to each concentration, including Addiction and Recovery Scholars (motivational interviewing, trust-based relational intervention) as well as Youth and Family Scholars (trust-based relational intervention, empowering healthy relationships among transition-age youth, and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy with Latinx families).
- Membership in an interprofessional community of scholars, offering support and opportunity for growth.
- Opportunity to apply for stipend support depending on field placement.
Application Process
To be eligible for IBH Scholars, trainees must be graduate students pursuing a Master of Social Work on the clinical track, a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Master of Science in Nursing, or a doctorate in educational or clinical psychology. Psychiatry residents in their final year of training are also eligible.
IBH Scholars are identified through a competitive application and interview process for both the Youth and Family and the Addiction and Recovery concentrations. To receive more information regarding the application timeline and how to apply, email the team.
Doctoral psychology interns interested in IBH Scholars must apply to the Dell Medical School/Dell Children’s Psychology Internship program and participate in the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers internship match. Postdoctoral fellowship positions may also be available. For more information, email Sasha Jaquez, Ph.D.
