Esther Melamed, M.D., Ph.D.

<p>Esther Melamed, MD, PhD, is a board-certified neurologist in the UT Medicine <a href=”https://utmedicine.org/get-care/browse/clinics/mulva-clinic-for-the-neurosciences-neurology/multiple-sclerosis”>Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology Center</a> and serves as the Research Director of UT Medicine’s <a href=”https://utmedicine.org/get-care/browse/clinics/services/post-covid-19-program”>Post-COVID-19 Program</a>. She specializes in caring for patients with multiple sclerosis, neuro-inflammatory conditions, neuromyelitis optica, and transverse myelitis. Additionally, Dr. Melamed is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical Department of Neurology.</p>
<p>Dr. Melamed earned both her medical degree and doctorate through the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of California, Los Angeles. She completed an internship in internal medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and both a residency in neurology and a fellowship in neuroimmunology at Stanford University.</p>
<p>Dr. Melamed is a principal investigator of a group of researchers at The University of Texas at Austin working on understanding genetic, environmental, and sex differences in multiple sclerosis and advancing patient-specific treatments for multiple sclerosis care. She founded the Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology Clinic at Dell Seton Medical Center in Austin. She is also a recipient of several Neurology Clerkship Medical Student Teaching Awards, the University of California, Los Angeles Chancellor’s Humanitarian Award, Chancellor’s Service Award, and Women 4 Change Leadership Award.</p>
