Emergency Medicine Residency: Curriculum

Our block schedule is based on 13 four week rotations per academic year.

Post Graduate Year I

  • 4 Blocks         Emergency Medicine:  University Medical Center at Brackenridge
  • 2 Blocks         Emergency Medicine:  Dell Children’s Medical Center
  • 1 Block           Emergency Medicine:  Seton Medical Center—Austin
  • 1 Block           Medical Intensive Care
  • 1 Block           Pediatric Intensive Care
  • 1 Block           Anesthesia (with 1 wk Peds Anesthesia)
  • 1 Block           Orthopedics
  • 1 Block           Labor and Delivery (Seton Medical Center)
  • 1 Block           Trauma and Acute Care Surgery

Post Graduate Year II

  • 5½ Blocks      Emergency Medicine:  University Medical Center at Brackenridge
  • 1 Block           Emergency Medicine:  Dell Children’s Medical Center (integrated with UMCB ED shifts)
  • 1½ Blocks      Emergency Medicine:  Seton Medical Center—Austin (integrated with UMCB ED shifts)
  • 1 Block           Surgical Intensive Care
  • 1 Block           Medical Intensive Care (Seton Medical Center)
  • 1 Block           ED Ultrasound
  • 1 Block           EMS
  • 1 Block           Elective

Post Graduate Year III

  • 6 Blocks         Emergency Medicine:  University Medical Center at Brackenridge
  • 1½ Blocks      Emergency Medicine:  Dell Children’s Medical Center (integrated with UMCB ED shifts)
  • 1½ Blocks      Emergency Medicine:  Seton Medical Center—Austin (integrated with UMCB ED shifts)
  • 1 Block           Rural Emergency Medicine:  Seton Highland Lakes
  • 1 Block           Toxicology
  • 1 Block           ED Administration
  • 1 Block           Elective
