In this installment of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Grand Rounds, Andrew Krystal, M.D., M.S., presents “Personalized Closed-Loop Deep Brain Stimulation for Treatment-Resistant Major Depression.”
Krystal is the Ray and Dagmar Dolby Distinguished Professor in the departments of Psychiatry and Neurology at the University of California, San Francisco’s School of Medicine. He serves as the director for the Dolby Family Center for Mood Disorders and the UCSF Interventional Psychiatry Program and co-director for the TMS and Neuromodulation Clinic.

By the end of this presentation, the audience participant should be able to:
- Review the literature on deep brain stimulation treatment of severe treatment-resistant depression.
- Discuss brain circuitry relevant to major depressive disorder and evidence for the need for personalization.
- Review the design, progress and findings from the PRESIDIO trial of personalized closed-loop deep brain stimulation in patients with severe treatment-resistant major depression.
