About the Event

In this installment of Pediatric Grand Rounds, Jessica Hart, M.D., MHQS, presents “The Comeback Kid: Learning from the Return.” Hart is the associate director for Penn Center for Healthcare Improvement and Patient Safety and an associate professor of clinical pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine. She also serves as the associate chair of quality improvement and patient safety for Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this presentation, the audience participant should be able to:

  1. Explain why pediatric readmissions are an imperfect measure of quality yet remain a valuable signal for system learning.
  2. Use Safety-II principles to reframe readmissions as opportunities to study system performance and adaptation.
  3. Identify practical strategies to leverage readmissions for quality improvement in transitions of care.

Target Audience

  • Primary: Pediatricians, pediatric subspecialists, family medicine physicians, pediatric residents
  • Secondary: Nursing and hospital Staff
