In this installment of Pediatric Grand Rounds, Kristie J. Loescher, MPH, DBA, presents “Payment, Pressure, and Practice: How Healthcare Financing Shapes Clinical Care.” Loescher is the assistant dean for Instructional Innovation, the director of the Healthcare Innovation Initiative, associate director of the Business Foundation Program, and professor of Instruction, Management Department at the McCombs School of Business.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this presentation, the audience participant should be able to:
1. Examine the provider payment mechanisms of private insurance.
2. Examine the provider payment mechanisms of public insurance programs (Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, VA, and Indian Health Service).
3. Comprehend how provider financing impacts clinical decision making.
4. Evaluate the impact of financing on supply side and demand side cost/utilization pressures.

- Primary: Pediatricians, pediatric subspecialists, family medicine physicians and pediatric residents
- Secondary: Nursing and hospital staff
