About the Event

In this installment of Neurosurgery Grand Rounds, Elias Rizk, M.D., Ph.D., presents “Peripheral Nerve Stimulation.” Rizk is a professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Dell Medical School.

Objectives

By the end of this presentation, the audience participant should be able to:

  1. Explain the mechanism of action of peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) in modulating chronic pain.
  2. Identify at least three clinical applications of PNS for chronic pain conditions citing specific evidence levels and outcomes from relevant studies.
  3. Apply knowledge of PNS electrical parameters (e.g., current intensity, frequency and pulse duration) to optimize nerve localization and stimulation in a clinical scenario.
  4. Evaluate the safety and long-term efficacy of PNS by summarizing findings from clinical studies and FDA symposium data.

Target Audience

  • Primary: Neurosurgeons, neurologist and other medical specialties
  • Secondary: Nursing staff, residents, students and allied health professions
