About the Event
In this installment of Neurosurgery Grand Rounds, Bob Messing, M.D., presents “Non-Opioid Therapeutics To Treat Chronic Pain: PKCε Inhibitors.” Messing is the department chair for the Department of Neuroscience at UT’s College of Natural Sciences. He is also a professor in the Department of Neurology at Dell Medical School. Additionally, he serves as the director for the Waggoner Center for Alcohol and Addiction Research.

Objectives
By the end of this presentation, the audience participant should be able to:
- Describe different types of chronic pain
- Explain the preclinical model of hyperalgesic priming for identifying drug targets to treat chronic pain
- Evaluate evidence for PKC epsilon as a drug target for certain forms of chronic pain

- Primary: Neurosurgeons, neurologist and other medical specialties
- Secondary: Nursing staff, residents, students and allied health professions
