About the Event

In this installment of Neurosurgery Grand Rounds, Ethan Tabibian, M.D., presents “Neurosurgical Care for the Elderly Patient: An Evolving Framework.” Tabibian is an affiliate faculty member in the Department of Neurosurgery at Dell Medical School.

Objectives

By the end of this presentation, the audience participant should be able to:

  1. Discuss concepts regarding aging, frailty, physiologic and neurological reserve and how they apply to neurosurgical decision making in the geriatric population.
  2. Define perioperative challenges unique to geriatric patients.
  3. Outline protocols that can reduce length of stay, preserve independence and improve outcomes in elderly patients following neurosurgical procedures.
  4. Discuss the management of common neurosurgical problems afflicting the geriatric population.

Target Audience

  • Primary: Neurosurgeons, neurologist and other medical specialties
  • Secondary: Nursing staff, residents, students and allied health professions
