In this installment of Neurology Grand Rounds, Michela Marinelli, Ph.D., presents “How the Brain Deceives Itself: Bias, Error and the Illusion of Objectivity.” Marinelli is an associate professor in the Department of Neurology at Dell Medical School.

Objectives

By the end of this presentation, the audience participant should be able to:

  1. Identify common cognitive biases and perceptual errors in judgment.
  2. Explain how heuristics distort how people estimate probabilities and detect patterns.
  3. Define ways in which belief and attention bias perception and recall.
