About the Event

Join Donald E. Wesson, M.D., MBA, for “Neutralizing the Risk: Managing Acidosis in CKD,” an upcoming Internal Medicine Grand Rounds presentation exploring the impact of metabolic acidosis in chronic kidney disease and current approaches to treatment. Attendees will learn how metabolic acidosis affects multiple organ systems, review evidence-based treatment strategies, and understand the benefits and potential complications associated with approved therapies.

Dr. Wesson is a nationally recognized leader in nephrology, population health, and academic medicine. He is the immediate past president of the Baylor Scott & White Health and Wellness Center and currently serves as a professor of medicine at Dell Medical School and The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. An internationally recognized researcher in kidney acidifying mechanisms, he has authored more than 150 scientific publications, numerous books on kidney disease and hypertension, and has helped translate basic science discoveries into clinical advances focused on nutrition and kidney health.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this presentation, the audience participant should be able to:

  1. 1. Identify multiple organ systems adversely affected by metabolic acidosis in chronic kidney disease (CKD).
  2. Describe ways by which metabolic acidosis in CKD can be treated.
  3. Describe benefits and possible complications of the approved ways by which metabolic acidosis might be treated.
