About the Event
Join Brandon Altillo, M.D., MPH, Jillian Rippon, M.D., and Haritha Saikumar, M.D. for “Feed Forward: Rethinking Feedback in GME,” an engaging Internal Medicine Grand Rounds session focused on transforming the way feedback is delivered and received in graduate medical education. Attendees will explore common barriers to effective feedback conversations, learn how to apply the ADAPT feedback framework, and gain practical strategies for fostering psychological safety and a culture of meaningful, learner-centered feedback.
Dr. Altillo serves as associate program director for the Internal Medicine Residency and leads several key residency initiatives, including ambulatory education, recruitment and mentorship programs. Dr. Rippon, a Dell Medical School residency and chief residency graduate, developed the Clinician Educator Track to support residents pursuing academic medicine careers. Dr. Saikumar is a pulmonary and critical care specialist and associate program director for the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship, with a strong interest in medical education.
Participants will leave with tools to deliver specific, actionable feedback, promote bidirectional communication, and identify institutional practices that support continuous growth and development.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this presentation, the audience participant should be able to:
- Describe common barriers to effective feedback conversations, including the impact of hierarchy, timing and nonspecific language, and categorization of different sequelae following acute infection.
- Apply the ADAPT feedback framework to deliver specific, actionable and learner-centered feedback.
- Explain the role of psychological safety in promoting effective bidirectional feedback.
- Identify institutional practices that promote and sustain a culture of high-quality feedback.
