About the Event
In this installment of Health Social Work Grand Rounds, Melissa McRoy Shearer, J.D., LBSW, presents “Advocacy is for Everyone: Micro, Mezzo, and Macro Practices that Sustain Practitioners and the Communities We Serve.” Shearer is the mental health public defender at the Travis County Mental Health Division.

Objectives
- Examine common concepts of advocacy work, including fears and perceived barriers to participation.
- Identify practical acts of micro, mezzo, and macro level advocacy.
- Discuss the beneficial effects of implementing advocacy strategies at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels for practitioners and members of the community.
Target Audience
Interprofessional and multidisciplinary health care providers, educators and students.
Accreditation Statement
The Office of Professional Development at the Steve Hicks School of Social Work is recognized as a continuing education provider by the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners. Program approval is conducted in accordance with the criteria and standards found in Requirements for Continuing Education under the Texas Administrative Code, 781.501. Programs can be approved for Social Workers, Licensed Professional Counselors, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists and Psychologists licensed for practice in Texas.
