About the Event

In this installment of the Extraordinary Learning and Teaching in the Clinical Setting series, LuAnn Wilkerson, Ed.D., and Carrie Barron, M.D. present “Supporting Growth of the ‘Good Physician’.” Wilkerson serves as the associate dean for evaluation and faculty development and is a professor in the Department of Medical Education at Dell Medical School. Barron serves as the director of creativity for resilience at Dell Med. She is also an associate professor in the Department of Medical Education.

The Extraordinary Learning and Teaching in the Clinical Setting series is a faculty development workshop that occurs weekly with the goal of exploring strategies for teaching. Sessions include peer-to-peer discussion, case studies, simulations and practice with feedback, drawing on evidence from the medical education literature.

Objectives

By the end of this presentation, the audience participant should be able to:

  1. Reflect on personal character strengths that sustain one in times of stress in patient care and teaching.
  2. Explore triggers or obstacles that inhibit the expression of one’s best self in the setting of clinical teaching.
  3. Explore strategies for helping learners sustain their character strengths when under stress.
