In this installment of the Extraordinary Learning and Teaching in the Clinical Setting series, Jillian Rippon, M.D., Jessica Chambers, M.D., and Parker Hudson, M.D., presents “Including EBM in Teaching and Assessment in GME.” Rippon, Chambers, and Hudson are assistant professors in the Department of Internal Medicine at Dell Medical School. Chambers is also the assistant program director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program. Hudson is also the program director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program and an associate professor in the Department of Population Health.

The Extraordinary Learning and Teaching in the Clinical Setting series is a faculty development workshop that occurs weekly with the goal of exploring strategies for teaching. Sessions include peer-to-peer discussion, case studies, simulations and practice with feedback, drawing on evidence from the medical education literature.
Objectives
By the end of this presentation, the audience participant should be able to:
- Identify the core components and skills required in the delivery of evidence-based medical care.
- Develop specific teaching strategies to promote the use by residents of evidence-based medicine in their delivery of clinical care.
- Provide feedback to trainees, including narrative statements in formal assessments, that reinforce appropriate use of EBM and provide specific suggestions for improvement.
