About the Event
In this installment of Best Practices in Medical Education Grand Rounds co-produced by the Department of Medical Education and the Professional Fulfillment and Well-Being team, Jon Courand, M.D, presents “Supporting Well-Being and Mental Health During the Transition to Residency.” Courand is the assistant dean for well-being for graduate medical education at UT Health San Antonio. He also serves as vice chair of GME and as a professor for the Department of Pediatrics.

By the end of this presentation, the audience participant should be able to:
- Assess incoming residents for the ease of transition from medical school to residency using a validated tool.
- Understand the role and utility of one time Opt-Out visits for new residents using a standardized approach to support transition to residency and mental health.
- Integrate an individual’s actions with their core values using the SAMHSA Eight Domains of Wellness.
