William “Richard” Owens

About

W. Richard Owens is director of mechanical circulatory support for the Texas Center for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease. In his role, he is responsible for oversight of mechanical circulatory support, including perfusion services, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and ventricular assist devices.

Prior to coming to Dell Med, Owens was the manager of ECMO and perfusion services at The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio. Owens is a member of the American Society of Extracorporeal Technology where he is recognized as a fellow of pediatric perfusion. Owens also spent time in industry as the manager of clinical affairs at Berlin Heart Inc. — the only FDA approved VAD for pediatric patients.

Prior to his Berlin Heart experience, Owens was a perfusionist and ventricular assist device coordinator at Texas Children’s Hospital. Owens was trained in perfusion science at The Texas Heart Institute after receiving a Bachelor of Science in medical technology.
