About
Thomas Achia is a biostatistician with over two decades of experience applying advanced statistical methods to public health and clinical research. His work focuses on spatial and spatiotemporal epidemiology, Bayesian hierarchical modeling, survival analysis and longitudinal data methods, with the goal of informing evidence-based interventions and advancing health equity. He has contributed to a wide range of global health initiatives across Africa and the United States, including during his tenure as a senior statistician at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
He holds honorary associate professor appointments in statistics at Strathmore University (Kenya), the University of KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) and the University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa), where he supports graduate training and research mentorship in biostatistics and epidemiology. He also serves on the executive board of the International Biometrics Society, contributing to the advancement of statistical science globally.
