About
Robert A. Foster, M.D., is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with fellowship training in hand surgery. Foster specializes in minimally invasive carpal tunnel surgery, complex hand reconstruction surgery, sports injuries, upper extremity arthritis and trauma care.
Foster completed his undergraduate degree at The University of Texas in Austin. He earned his medical degree at The University of Texas Medical Branch and his orthopaedic surgery residency at Oregon Health Sciences University. He earned his fellowship training in hand and microvascular surgery at the University of Minnesota.
Foster is passionate about his work, and with a background in biomedical engineering, he brings a highly technical and intuitive approach to hand surgery. With all the intricacies of nerves, arteries, tendons (and more) in the hand, he specializes in one of the most complicated of all orthopaedic specialties.
He has been voted by his peers to the Texas Monthly Super Doctors list from 2007-2020 and as a 2021 and 2022 Legacy Member Hall of Fame Super Doctor. He was also recognized as an Austin Monthly Top Doctor in 2021 and 2022. Foster is also an active member of the teaching faculty of Dell Medical School’s Orthopedic Surgery Residency.
