About

Pooja Varshney, M.D., is a pediatric allergist immunologist and clinical researcher whose work centers on the care of children with food allergy. Varshney grew up in rural Southwest Texas and is a graduate of Rice University and Baylor College of Medicine. She returned to her home state after fellowship at Duke University with a mission to develop a food allergy program at Dell Children’s Medical Center.

Varshney is director of the Dell Children’s food allergy center, a Clinical Research Center of Distinction in the Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) clinical network. She is principal investigator on trials studying the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of food allergy, including the multicenter PALISADE trial which led to the first FDA-approved treatment for food allergy. Additional areas of investigation include food insecurity, anaphylaxis and food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome.

Varshney is an active member of national allergy and pediatric societies and has authored numerous publications. She advocates for food allergy and anaphylaxis management in schools as a member of the Texas Department of Health Services Stock Epinephrine Advisory Committee. She enjoys teaching and mentorship.

Varshney is dual-board-certified in pediatrics and allergy/immunology and cares for children with a wide range of allergic and immunologic conditions at Dell Children’s Medical Center. She co-leads the multidisciplinary eosinophilic esophagitis clinic. Varshney strives to deliver high-quality care with a team-based approach, incorporating the latest scientific advances and personalized, family-centered care. Outside of work, she enjoys cooking, traveling, the outdoors and precious time spent with family and friends.
