About
Piper Nieters Su, J.D., oversees Dell Medical School’s strategic partnerships and collaborative relationships with government entities, community partners and other external stakeholders.
She is also director for health care finance and payment at the Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign’s Policy Fellowship, where she teaches and advises fellows in the program.
Prior to joining Dell Med, Nieters Su led strategy and sales as the chief growth officer and chief strategy officer at triValence, a health care technology startup company focused on the non-acute care sector. As a member of the company’s executive leadership team, Nieters Su participated in the early stages of the company’s development and expansion and worked closely with the company’s private equity partner and early pilot partners.
Nieters Su was a member of the senior leadership team at Mayo Clinic, leading the organization’s government relations, policy, community engagement and reputation management teams as the chair of external relations. She also served as interim chief public affairs officer and led Mayo Clinic’s overall internal and external communications strategy and managed a team of over 150 staff responsible for communications, external relations, media relations and thought leadership.
Earlier in her career, she worked closely with health providers, payors and manufacturers to advise them on public policy and market strategy. As vice president of The Advisory Board Company’s health policy division, she led efforts to bring market insights to Congress, the Administration and senior leadership in the health policy community.
Nieters Su also worked as a senior attorney at law firms specializing in health care law and policy, assisting clients with formal legal advice as well as legislative and regulatory strategies at the state and federal level. During that time, she also served as an advisor to U.S. Sen. Tom Daschle on client-related matters as well as thought leadership.
Previously, she served in the U.S. Senate as legislative counsel to Sen. Ken Salazar and as the principal advisor for his health care-related activities on the Senate Finance Committee. She also clerked for the minority staff of the U.S. House Committee on Government Reform during her time in law school.
Nieters Su holds a J.D. from the Washington College of Law at American University and a B.A. in political science from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. She is current chair of the board of directors at the United Way of Olmsted County and serves on the board of trustees of the Minnesota Science Museum.
