About

Murtaza S. Malbari, M.S., works in partnership with school and departmental leadership to ensure successful implementation of strategic plans and provision of sponsored projects administration support and services to the Dell Medical School research community. He seeks to enable the expansion of sponsored research at Dell Med as the university sets its sight on becoming a leader among all public research universities.

Prior to joining Dell Med, Malbari worked at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City as the director of finance and research administration for the Neuberger Berman Lung Cancer Research Center and the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery. In the 13 years spent at Weill Cornell, he oversaw their comprehensive research enterprise, including grant and clinical trial management, financial portfolio and strategy, budgeting, operations, project management, laboratory management, biobanking, capital planning and personnel oversight.

Malbari played a vital role in the growth of Weill Cornell’s research infrastructure to meet the demands of an expanding academic research portfolio and the acceleration of cutting-edge research themes such as cancer immunotherapy, personalized medicine and novel approaches for cardiac surgery.

Prior to Weill Cornell, Malbari held positions in research management at SUNY Stony Brook University and Lexicon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and middle eastern studies from the The University of Texas at Austin, a master’s degree in physiology and biophysics from SUNY Stony Brook University and financial management certification from Cornell University’s SC Johnson College of Business.

Having spent his early career in New York, Malbari is excited to return to his alma mater and native state. With his wife and three children, Malbari enjoys exploring the great outdoors, trying new cuisine, traveling, and doing anything related to baseball.
