About
M. Omar Iqbal, M.D., is a board-eligible pediatric neurosurgeon in UT Health Austin Pediatric Neurosciences at Dell Children’s. He specializes in pediatric neurosurgery with a special interest in pediatric spine and epilepsy. Iqbal received his Bachelor of Science in psychobiology from the University of California in Los Angeles and earned his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. He completed his residency in pediatric neurosurgery at Rutgers University, where his interest in neurosurgery led him to complete a fifth-year residency at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, England. Iqbal completed his fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and a second fellowship in spine deformity at Shriners Hospitals for Children in Philadelphia.
Iqbal’s research interest is in the growing pediatric spine and developing growth-modulating technologies and approaches that allow surgeons to avoid fusion in a prepubescent spine. He has published multiple articles is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.
