About
Lawrence Hauser, M.D., is an affiliate faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry. He has been a member of the psychiatry faculty for over 35 years. Hauser graduated Phi Beta Kappa from The University of Texas of Austin in 1976. He finished his medical degree in 1981 at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He completed his training in general psychiatry as the chief resident from the same institution in 1985.
Hauser has been in private practice in Austin since 1985, and he was the Travis County Jail psychiatrist from 1985 to 2002. Hauser was the chief of psychiatry at University Medical Center at Brackenridge from 1989 to 2012. He ran the psychiatric consultation-liaison service at Brackenridge, where he taught and supervised medical students and residents from psychiatry, internal medicine and family practice for 27 years. He also worked as the director of the consultation-liaison service at St. David’s Medical Center from 1990 to 1999.
Hauser served as the residency training director for the Austin Psychiatric residency program from 1988 to 1989. He served as the Texas medical director for Beacon Health Options from 2012 to 2016, and he worked as the behavioral consultant to the Seton Health Plan from 2004 to 2019.
