About

Keren Hasbani, M.D., is a pediatric cardiologist, director of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas and an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Dell Medical School. She is also the medical director of the coronary anomalies program and medical director of cardiovascular quality assurance for Texas Center for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Disease with Carlos Mery, M.D. Hasbani specializes in advanced imaging and in the management of children with congenital and acquired heart disease.

Hasbani has a strong background in pediatric congenital heart disease, with specific training and expertise in cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging. Her earliest CMR work at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute was with Andrew Arai, M.D., in his laboratory of cardiac energetics. There, she studied children with Freidreich ataxia and its association with progressive cardiomyopathy and other muscular dystrophies. She also performed numerous CMR on patients who had previously undergone surgical repair of their congenital heart disease. As part of this lab, Hasbani learned the magnetic resonance physics that allowed the lab to continue to develop and test innovative CMR sequences for evaluating pediatric and adult patients. In continuation of this work, her career research has been focused on CMR imaging, improving image quality and acquisition time and helping predict patient outcomes.

Prior to moving to Austin, Hasbani worked in Chicago at Advocate Children’s Hospital, where she developed the CRM program. She was the site principal investigator for multiple cardiac MRI multi-center research projects.

Hasbani received her undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She completed her pediatric residency at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island; her pediatric cardiology fellowship at Children’s National in Washington, D.C.; and her advanced imaging fellowship at the NIH in Bethesda, Maryland, with a focus on cardiac MRI and fetal echocardiography.

Hasbani is board-certified in both pediatrics and pediatric cardiology and is a member of the Texas Medical Association, Travis County Medical Society, American Academy of Pediatrics, American Heart Association and Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance. Additionally, she is fluent in Hebrew and Spanish.
