About

Karla Maguire, M.D., MPH, is an associate professor in Dell Medical School’s Department of Women’s Health and a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist. Prior to joining Dell Med, Maguire was an associate professor with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where she served as the director of the Ryan Residency Training Program and the associate clerkship director.

Maguire attended undergraduate school at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she received a bachelor’s in chemistry and a minor in Spanish. She went on to receive her medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. After completing her residency in obstetrics and gynecology with Baylor College of Medicine, she simultaneously completed a fellowship in family planning and preventative services and a master’s in public health, epidemiology, with Columbia University in New York.

Maguire has received a number of honors and awards, including the Resident Research Day Mentor Award, the Golden Apple Award for Teaching Excellence with the University of Miami and the Thomas V. Sedlacek M.D. Prize for Best Clinical Research Abstract from the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology. Maguire’s clinical and research interests include intrauterine devices and contraception along with preventative health screenings in underserved populations. She has several peer-reviewed publications and has been invited to speak and present at meetings both nationally and internationally.
