About
John Harkins came to Dell Medical School from The University of Texas Southwestern, where he was an assistant professor in obstetrics and gynecology. He completed his medical degree at West Virginia University School of Medicine and his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Houston. He is also chief of staff at Dell Medical School and the academic medical director of perinatal services at Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin.
Harkins is committed to improving patient safety through the Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety committee, where he is a master trainer. He has given presentations on these topics on the regional and national levels, and he is a recipient of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists National Mentor Award.
Harkins lives in Austin with his wife and children, Madison, Mallory and Maclean. When he’s not busy with his family, he enjoys music, golf and fishing.
