About

Brian Kaufman, M.D., is an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care.

Kaufman is a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon with a subspecialty interest in the management of idiopathic, congenital, neuromuscular and post-traumatic spinal deformities. He serves as the vice medical director of orthopaedic surgery at Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas, where he focuses on improving the quality and cost-efficiency of care provided to the children of Central Texas. He is also a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon at Central Texas Pediatric Orthopedics.

Kaufman came to Austin in 2016 after completing fellowship training at Nemours/A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children. He has lectured nationally and internationally on his research interests in pediatric spinal deformity. Kaufman is an active member of the Scoliosis Research Society and Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America, serving on multiple committees in both organizations.

Kaufman is a New Jersey transplant who has come to embrace life in Texas. He and his wife, Shelby, have a son named Charlie. Outside of the hospital, Kaufman enjoys barbecue, hiking, UT football and spending time with his family.
