About

Bo Soo Kim, M.D, is a board-certified pulmonary and critical care physician with the Institute for Cardiovascular Health, a clinical partnership between Ascension Seton and UT Health Austin. He serves as director of the cardiothoracic surgery critical care program at Dell Medical School and practices as an attending intensivist in the cardiovascular surgical intensive care unit at Ascension Seton Medical Center. His clinical expertise lies in the care of critically ill patients following complex cardiac and thoracic surgery, with special interests in ECMO, cardiogenic shock, neurologic monitoring and multidisciplinary postoperative care.

Kim earned his medical degree at Sidney Kimmel Medical College and completed residency and chief residency in internal medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He completed his fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Johns Hopkins, where he went on to serve as an attending intensivist in the cardiovascular surgical ICU and as medical director of the adult ECMO program. Prior to joining The University of Texas at Austin, he was a faculty member in the departments of Medicine and Surgery at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Kim’s academic work focuses on clinical outcomes in cardiothoracic critical care, neurologic complications of ECMO and advanced ICU management strategies for complex surgical patients. He is a founding member of the HERALD group (Hopkins Education Research and Advancement in Life-support Devices) and has authored more than 80 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals. He remains active in national and international forums, serving as a speaker, moderator and planning committee member for meetings of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the American Association for Thoracic Surgery. Kim is a member of the American Thoracic Society and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
